I'm developing a GDRecruit Browser Extension that will replace the GDRecruit desktop application.

I'm looking for some beta testers. To beta test you will need to become familiar with how to load an "unpacked" extension. It isn't that hard to do, I can provide instructions.

I have only tested with Chrome browser, but it should likely work with Edge browser. It is not compatible with Firefox.

1. My instructions are for Chrome and assume you have already logged in to Whatifsports.com using that same browser.
2. Unzip the zip file into a folder of your choice.
3. Open Chrome
4. Open Manage Extensions or open a tab and enter chrome://extensions/
5. There should be a toggle button to enable Developer Mode (look upper right corner)
6. Select the "Load unpacked" button and choose the folder where you unzipped the files
7. The browser extension should now be installed and you can find the icon looks like a football helmet on a green background.
8. When you click on the icon, it should open a new browser tab.
9. Click the Initialize Season button.
10. You should see a prompt to enter a Season Number - doesn't really matter too much, but if you want it to be consistent with the actual season number you would be recruiting against, then I suggest entering the number that matches which season these recruits will sign. You have the option to select other divisions than the one associated with your selected team.
11. It will take a few seconds and then complete the loading of recruits. You should see the Recruit count get updated and if you had already added any recruits to your watchlist that count should update too.
12. Click the Recruit tab to view the recruits. You can use the various filters and can also sort by a column in ascending or descending order. You can also show/hide any columns and also drag and drop columns into any order you wish. The column visibility and column order are preserved across sessions and are shared for all teams.
13. After a recruiting cycle has finished, you can press the Refresh Recruit Data button to grab the latest updates.
14. Click on the Settings tab where you can do the following:
    1. Clear data button will offer choice to clear the current team or all teams if you have more than one configured.
    2. Role Ratings Config - Edit Role Ratings - you can use this to customize the role ratings per position. Reset to Defaults button will clear out all of your customizations and return to the default values. These are global across all of your teams. If you edit the values and save, recruits across all of your teams will be recalculated based on the new values.
    3. Attribute Style Config - Edit Attribute Styling - you can select which recruit attributes to bold highlight. Reset to Defaults button will clear out all of your customizations and return to the default selections. This is a global config and applies to all teams.
    4. Reset column order - if you have customized column order, you can reset to default order here.
15. If you have more than one team, you switch teams through the GD website. Your active GD team will be detected by the browser extension and "switch" to that team's info automatically within the extension.

Overall I'd say it is a capable replacement for the desktop app.

I was actually able to get the extension published already to the Chrome store, so for Chrome and Edge browsers, you can easily install the extension here instead of messing with the developer mode/manual install approach.

But I can tell there is already some problem with what they published so use manual instructions for now. Will follow back when corrected.

A new version 0.4.1 has been published to the Chrome extension store which should work better. And another version 0.4.8 is on the way to being published (next day or so) with some more enhancements including the addition of the recruit's formation IQ.

I have 4 teams. How do I chose the team I want to recruit for? Currently your extension has the wrong team up. Which I didn't chose.

..and holy ads batman on chrome.

I sent you a sitemail realist. The extension should work with any Google Chromium based, which means Chrome or Edge. If you are logged into WIS GD using some other browser, it won't work.

In terms of "ads", not sure what you are referring to. My browser extension has nothing to do with any ads and is NOT ad-supported.

Sorry ebz, I meant chrome ads. I haven't used Chrome for years.

St Joseph is just ending it's recruiting, so maybe a reason it's not working well. I have another team that's starts recruiting in a couple of days. I will try it then.

GREAT STUFF!!!!!! I love it. Thanks much. Yatzr made the game playable for me. Now you have taken over that role. I really, really appreciate your work.

One item to consider adding is: the number of scholarships available.

I suggest reaching out to the new owners and seeing if they will work with you to integrate vision into your tool. It's been done before and it can be done again. The owners are looking to make adjustments that are not complete overhauls to the game. Integrating vision into your tool would be a gigantic overhaul with huge benefits to owners.

Of course, better yet would be for the new owners to recognize that "vision" as it is currently constituted is a gross cancer on the game, and eliminating it altogether would possibly be the single greatest improvement they can make to GD.

I've already asked for them to help resolve the vision discrepancy and they have declined.

I still need to make a few tweaks to the extension based on feedback and my own use of the tool:

1. Those with multiple teams may have difficulty getting the browser extension to switch to the currently active WIS GD team. The current workaround is to open the browser extension, then go back to switch to a different team, then view the browser extension, then switch to the team you want to be active, then view the browser extension again. At that point it should refresh to the correct team. I will will try add a manual refresh option to manually detect the currently active team if it is not matching your current active team.
2. Will add distance in miles filters that match the filters on the GD recruit search page and also add ability to enter a custom distance.
3. When sorting by a column and then switching some of the filters, like changing to a different position, I've noticed the sorting isn't preserved. You have to sort again. I'd like to fix that.

I don't know when I will get around to addressing these. But when I do, I will post an update.
