Six Division Draft League Topic

Here is what I do know.

1) $52 Million Draft League
2) Eight rounds, eight draft picks, ABBAABBA
3) There are six divisions in the NBA. All of your players must come from the same division. There will be four teams picking from each division. Basically, we are conducting six different four team drafts at the same time.

If that isn’t confusing enough, here is a sample draft.

Drafter #1: LeBron James - Southeast

This means that drafter #1 can use the 12-13 Miami LeBron, who I have been told is a pretty good player. This also means that the rest of #1’s picks must come from the Southeast Division, Miami, Atlanta, Orlando, Charlotte and Washington.

Drafter #2: Wilt Chamberlain - Atlantic

Drafter #2 can now use the 66-67 Wilt. Yeeha! The rest of his picks must come from the Atlantic Division, Boston, New York, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Toronto.

Drafter #3: LeBron James - Central

Drafter #3 can use any one of the fine Cleveland versions of LeBron. His remaining picks must all be made from Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee and Indiana.

Drafter #4: Jeff Hornacek - __________

Drafter #4 must decide whether to use the Phoenix Hornacek so he can draft from the Pacific Division, or the Utah Hornacek so he can draft the rest of his team from the Northwest Division.

And so on and so on. Some players, like Nikola Jokic, will only be drafted once, while other players could possibly be drafted multiple times. Once a player is drafted from one division he can no longer be drafted in that division, but he is still eligible to be drafted in a different division.

If you have any questions please ask.

What I think I’m going to is after the first round is over and we know who is in what division is to split the draft into six mini drafts. If you get the right four people together in one division they could zip through the rest of the draft very quickly.

What about NBA teams that have not historically been in the same division?

All over the map: Eight times that the NBA realigned teams across conferences ---- here's an article on just the times teams have changed conferences.

Also, in your example and just for clarification, if someone took Hornacek could they pick a season with the 76'ers or not because someone already took Wilt and he was 76'ers Atlantic Division?

I guess when you pick your 1st player and they played for multiple teams in different divisions over their career you must go ahead and declare which team that they played for you are going to select a season from and that then will be your division from then on, right?

So if I take a Kareem season from back on the Bucks I am in the midwest division?

That’s a very good question. What we will do is use the divisions as they currently are. For example Houston was a team that bounced around a bit. We will use the Southwest Division for the Rockets, because that is where they are now. If you want Moses Malone you would post Moses Malone - Southwest.
If someone else wants the Philadelphia Malone they can post Moses Malone - Atlantic. Both managers would get Malone, but they would be different seasons.

Yes, you should know which season you will be using when you make your pick. For example, if you want to use the 15-16 Kawhi Leonard season you will post Kawhi Leonard - Southwest. The Toronto Leonard and the Clippers Leonard will still be available since they are in different divisions.

If you take an early Milwaukee Kareem Abdul-Jabbar season he will be in the Central Division, because that’s where the Bucks are now.
