I observed the same thing as mrpolo: after the graduation of the first (and excessively inflated) class of potential players, this year's team ratings are much lower. Frankly, I like this change because there will be far fewer freak players with multiple 80+ (or even 90+) ratings.

Anyway, good luck to all this season!

yeah, i just poked through the upstate, and feel like my 508-rated team can at least compete there this season... wouldn't have been the case 2-3 seasons ago.

Maybe I have been spoiled. The last couple of seasons, my team has been in the 520s and 530s to start the season. I do have a lot of underclassmen!!

i think this is the first season of having zero pre-potential players. not positive though
7/8/2009 4:32 PM
That's right. Last year only the redshirted pre-potential players were around, and now they are all gone.
7/8/2009 4:57 PM
Ya took me a while to figure potential out but I think I finally did it I was on the verge of giving up. Kinda nice in a way more realistic no more 90ath 90 reb guys

Been pretty quiet here for a while... time to stir the postseason pot. I'd say the (lukewarm) favorite to win it all is George Fox.

Outside of that, it's really just a free-for-all of press/break teams:
Thomas
Lasell
Edgewood
Beloit
Maranatha
Finlandia

Other contenders who happen to run a non-gimmicky O/D combo:
Monmouth
McMurry
SUNY Maritime
Hamline
Oberlin
Marywood

Just my answer to a question nobody asked.
8/5/2009 4:09 PM
You can definitely take us off that list. We'll be lucky to make it out of the second round. Finlandia is playing some good ball right now. I had great seats for our two losses to them.
8/5/2009 11:47 PM
whoa, you cant have a list like that and not include at least one team from the upstate... we dont have the sexy 23-3 records. but half the teams in the conference would be 14-2 in other conferences....

gotta at least go with case western.
8/6/2009 12:11 AM
Non-gimmicky?

Anyway, I'd concur with mrpolo - 8 teams in that conference would finish 1st or 2nd in most conferences - I ve got a few scars from the beatings.

UW-Superior is a gimmick squad that's a year away - snuck into the top 25 with 9 Fr/So. Next year we've got a chance to challenge in the NT.

Case Western would be the best shot... but I believe this is a bit of a down year for the Upstate in terms of power teams. There's no beast in there that scares everyone. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

The Upstate's combined record against teams I've named on that list is 2-18. So I don't think you can automatically say that several Upstate teams would 14-2 in other conferences. Case Western beat MBBC, and Wash. U beat Thomas... that's it.

Among those 18 combined losses, 9 were to Norm's MBBC squad, a few were to SUNYM, a couple to Oberlin, and a potpourri of Lasell, Hamline, Beloit, Monmouth. The Upstate's reign as the dominant force in Wooden D3 won't last forever...

whoa, whoa, whoa... it wont last forever, but it wont be ending anytime soon. and it sure as hell wont be stopped by no nic-NAC-paddy-wack conference

How many Upstate coaches does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

12. One to screw it in, and eleven to complain about the sim engine.

****TANGENT ALERT****
I tend to be long-winded, so please feel free to skip the rest of this nonsense.

The NAC has slowly but surely improved, and it's only a matter of time, polo... We are a self-made conference, comprised mostly of rookie coaches who had never played the game before we signed up for the NAC. With the exception of my race-to-D1 experiment in Tark, and adambrag's MBBC title run in some other world (I forget which), none of us have any other teams in other worlds, and to this point we have not hijacked any coaches (though lord knows we've tried) from other conferences/divisions/worlds. And since all the teams were so bad to begin with, we have not a poacher among us.

We've added coaches one-at-a-time, each one rebuilding a dead program into a contender, so it can't happen overnight. But it will happen eventually. Mark my words, good sir. I turned Lasell from nothing into a power. Latz took a moribound Husson team and turned them into a perennial contender. Thomas's coach is as good a recruiter as there is in the business, and that's why they're the top RPI team this year. Castleton St. went from nothing to the Dynasty list. UMF had no track record of success... now they're on the cusp of 3 straight NT appearances. Elms... well, um, I'll let Gene speak for himself... but long-story-short, they're a disaster. The Becker and Salem St. programs have inexperienced coaches, but they will no doubt ascend to postseason heights the same way everyone else here has.

It may take another year (real time) but the NAC will surpass the Upstate eventually. If you care to make it interesting, I'm up for it.

lmao, great joke.

wow, nice to have a rivalry going. we've outlasted a few failed attempts at being dethroned, we're ready for another.

i'll think about it, maybe we can do something to make it even more interesting
