Well, considering how bad offensively the shortstops are from this era... playing Schmidt at SS is plausible. His .898 OPS# is 35 points higher than the top hitting "real" shortstop ('75 Toby Harrah), who was drafted in round 1.

Heck, I used a 3rd round pick on a guy with a .791 OPS#. There could be starting shortstops with OPS# < .700 on rosters.
