If real life were HBD and I was the Phillies trying to acquire a right-handed bat, I'd play this differently. If everyone is asking you for Brown and your other top prospects already, why not see how much more it would take for the Justin Uptons or Matt Kemps of the world? Especially given the Dodgers financial issues, why not at least give them a call?

I remember hearing a little while ago that Kemp and Ethier probably can't be traded, because with MLB overseeing operations and wanting to force McCourt to sell, they aren't going to greenlight any deals for their more marketable names.

As for the general question, given their salary situation, the only reason they would shop to see what they get for Brown is if they've soured on his potential - they aren't going to trade him for someone they have to pay right away.  As for a guy like Cosart and others who are further away, I could see them doing that, but again, they probably aren't that interested in going out of their way to trade away young, cheap talent.

It's more of a longshot proposal, if rumors are true that everyone is asking for those same premium prospects anyway.

Ruben may well be doing what you're saying, bot.  He's pretty good at keeping things quiet.  Anything like that is unlikely, but it is certainly worth making the calls, and I'd imagine he's doing so.

Meh.  I can replace Candelaria from within without giving up a decent relief prospect.  Appreciate the logical offer though, whether it was on purpose or coincidental.

I am interested to find out who ends up with Candelaria though.
