Hopefully everything went well and you are recovering nicely. By all means, make sure to take care of yourself, we can all wait for this amazing tourney!
It did...just got back from the outpatient facility. I think I'll take you up on your suggestion and start the tourney on Friday because I feel like I just went 0-6 in Group Stage play.

Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi and indiansrck27, your two-time title defense and bid to become the Cup's first three-peat Champion starts now!

Everyone can schedule at your convenience. You'll play a home and away against each opponent, so you'll be sending and receiving a challenge with each team in your group for a total of six games.. The time frame for Group Stage games is June 13th thru June 24th. Remember, games must be scheduled by the 24th, not necessarily played by the 24th.

Spread your outgoing challenges out. Slot 10 is as good as Slot 1. If everybody uses the first three slots, there will be a traffic jam. So, here's the rule of thumb I suggest - If you receive an incoming challenge in the same slot you have sent an outgoing challenge, please accept the incoming challenge and re-issue your own challenge that was in that slot. If you receive multiple incoming challenges in the same slot, choose one ASAP. Choosing one quickly gives the team you did not select as much time as possible to issue a new challenge to you.

I have verified that each User ID and team name is spelled correctly. You can copy/paste the user ID or team name from the participating teams list. While a lot of teams have similar names (there are a lot of dragons,) every ID is unique. Sometimes the program adds an extra space to the beginning or end of a user ID or team name. Remove the extra space for your search to work.

OK, everyone. It's time to lace up your cleats and enter the arena. Best of luck and show no mercy - goal differential is a tiebreaker. 16 survive the round-robin to continue the fight in their bid for the Ultimate Prize.

I will do the first sweep of scheduled games this evening as the opening match-ups should be starting to roll in.

For some reason when I accepted the challenge from Swamp U, it scheduled us for back-2-back games at his place.

The program does that sometimes. I've seen as many as 4 games in a row.

The first game will be the one that counts in the standings.

The live action has gotten underway with the opening game of Cup XVII now officially in the books. Group G led the way with FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds, the defending Bums Bracket winner from Cup XVI, hosting FC Cackalacky in the Scottish capital. Wanting to prove that they were better than their 17th place finish last tournament, the Bullet Birds poured it on right from the start. Walker Rowena scored the first of his two goals in the 9th minute when his shot from inside the penalty area got through the hands of Cackalacky goalie Tommy Peters to open the tournament scoring. Moments later, a free kick was awarded to Edinburgh and Dutch defender Tymen Zonneveld surveyed his options as he stood over the ball. He eventually decided to choose himself as he placed a beautiful free kick onto his own head 30 yards down the pitch to make the score 2-0. Cackalacky was able to score after Zak Quaranta got one by diving Bullet Birds goalie Paulo Hudson in the 23rd but the best of the Bums had too much firepower this morning and won the game 5-1. The result puts the American squad in an immediate hole and makes their next contest a must positive result.

There are four more games this evening as Cup XVII is not easing into the games but going full speed ahead right from the get-go. A whopping 65 games have already been scheduled in the Group Stage, which might be a record this early into the time frame. See you tonight with four game summaries.

The first full day of action has concluded and we already have a team that is playing with fire. FC Cackalacky out of Group G dropped its 2nd game today, this time a 3-1 contest at home to FC Not Very Athletic and putting themselves in a tough spot. 35,209 came out to lift up the home squad and it worked...for a half. Casper Jansen gave Cackalacky the halftime lead when his 27th minute effort sailed into the far corner, giving Cackalacky the 1-0 margin going into the break. However, the 2nd half was the Kenderick Keriell show as the veteran English forward scored a hat trick, bending the ball away from goalie Tommy Peters for the tying goal and then putting the game away with a header in the closing minutes to power Athletic to the 3-1 win. At 0-2, the Americans must score points in their next outing or they'll probably be heading to the Bums.

Tournament newbie FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men didn't act like a first-time participant when they opened up Group E play with a victory against Cup regulars FC Trojans of SC by a final score of 3-1. Stratford completely dominated the game, with a 33-11 opportunities advantage and a 13-1 edge in corner kicks. One of those corners was converted into the opening goal of the game when Richard Roudet found himself wide open in the middle of the box and drilled it past a helpless Jakobe Mullan for the 1-0 lead and, to finish the game off the way it started, Clodoveo Michel scored late off another corner attempt to end any chance of a Trojans comeback. As much as they were outplayed, the Trojans were probably happy to get out of there with only a 2-goal differential as the score could have been much worse.

As is their tournament habit, Osztrák-Magyar Monarchia Foci Klub lost a Cup game, not surprising considering my backup team had lost 11 of its 12 tournament games up to this point in its history. We can now make that 12 out of 13 as it dropped its opener in Group B 4-1 to the Metropolitan Eagles in Stockholm. The Screaming Eagles coasted out to a 3-0 lead before Austria-Hungary decided to knock one into the back of the net to erase the goose egg. Czech forward Tomas Bezdek scored twice to lead the way for the Swedish side. 19 year old Ford Cooke got the lone score for the Dual Monarchy as they look outmatched in Cup play once again.

In the final game of the evening, two evenly matched teams of quality played a competitive 2-2 draw to open up Group F. Not Very United and FC Stolpen Steamroller showed that not very much separated the two sides. Opportunities were even at 19, corners were even at 5...well, you get the idea. Both teams held a one goal advantage just to have the other answer back and take the lead themselves. Rodiger Brenner's 50th minute goal ended the scoring when he nutmegged his mark and pinballed a shot off another defender and into the goal past a flat-footed United goalie Marlon Knowles, who was leaning the other way.

There are a couple of games tomorrow which I'll update in the evening. Keep scheduling those games.

There were three games today in the 2nd day of the Cup XVII tournament, with two of the games coming out of Group D involving former Champion Merchiston FC. Racking up the frequent flier miles, Merchiston played the pair of games on the road, starting off in Ireland, where they were hosted by Fianna AFC in Dublin. 65 year old Dutch master Thomas-VanLuijk De Meyer scored twice for the visitors as they took the road win 4-1. The Americans were also aided by some sloppy goaltending as Math Boyes scored on a 59th minute shot that should have been easily saved by Fianna's Barre Ramsey but dribbled past him to make the advantage 3-0 at that point. The home side got one moment to cheer when Lindsay Hynes knocked a header past Jean-Martin Swerts in the 72nd but the contest ended up as a comfortable win.

Merchiston had a much more difficult time in Sweden when they played their other game of the day against FC Gimli Vikings. Showing some fatigue, the Vikings jumped out to a 2-1 halftime lead after Stearn Rentería volleyed a cross from distance right before the break to wow the 23,484 in attendance. But the Swedes couldn't grab all three points as Merchiston was able to draw level midway through the 2nd half after Demy Pocognoli scored on a muff by Vikings goalie Marecek Palecek and the game ended 2-2.

The final game today came out of Group C as VB Hibernian played a close match against a sold-out crowd of 45,000 in Brighton AFC's home stadium out in East Sussex. Veteran Cup scorer Tedrick Frame got the Cabbage on the board when his header from the top of the box easily beat Brighton goalie Slevin Heffernan to make it 1-0. Emilio Rivas made the score 2-0 early in the 2nd stanza when he also beat Hefferman to the near post, a goal that proved to be the game winner. Morrey Sumner narrowed the lead to 2-1 in the 74th minute and Brighton pressed the collapsing defense but was unable to find the equalizer as Melorran McKeoug's 86th minute try sailed just wide of the target. Hibs was able to play keep away for the closing minutes to grab all three points.

There are five games from what I can see tomorrow as the Group Stage starts to heat up.

I just noticed as I was updating the L'Orteil D'or that Merchiston FC's Patrício Mansilla is 111 years old, making him the 2nd oldest player to score in FC Dynasty Cup history, right behind the tournament's all-time goal scorer, the ageless Arley Movsisyan from Swamp City Dragons

I'm glad I checked in. I thought there were 5 games today. Actually, there were 5 morning games and several more this evening. I'm in the process of adding the morning games to the standings.

Five games went final this morning as the fate of a couple of teams is already beginning to be established. The return game in Group G between FC Cackalacky and FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds saw more of the same from the opening game of the tournament, with Edinburgh winning decisively on the road by a score of 5-0. Daylin Plunkett scored two in a row to open the game and the Bullet Birds never looked back. A couple of late insurance goals topped off the match as the Scottish side now has a +9 goal differential and is looking very good to advance, given a pair of 3rd Place teams will make it through to the Knockouts. While certainly not mathematically eliminated, Cackalacky will be hard pressed, with an 0-3 record and a -11 in the scoring column.

Two former Cup winners kicked off Group D play when the crutchanators of soccer won a tight game against Rushmore FC by a 4-3 margin. Sampo Jarvela scored twice for crutchanators and Nathan Wyard, the young Rushmore forward, matched his effort with a pair of his own. The difference between the two squads was the final 10 minutes, where Iago Cristiani tied the contest at 3-3 when his lazer beat Rushmore goalie Rej Maria, setting up Jarvela's heroics several minutes later when his 2nd goal won all three points for the home side.

Wolfsburg Dynamit withstood an offensive barrage by FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men out of Group E and managed to win their Cup XVII debut 2-1 in Lower Saxony. Clodoveo Michel scored for the 2nd game in a row to give Stratford the early 1-0 lead but was unable to close the game out. Donall Tubney tied the match 1-1 at halftime and then found the winning header in the 84th minute that just squeezed past Stratford goalie Winfrith Craig. The King's Men still sit atop the early standings thanks to the away goal tiebreaker.

FC Gimli Vikings lost their first game of the tournament, falling 1-0 at home to tournament powerhouse Swamp City Dragons, who won despite playing the entire 2nd half a man down after Tre Ackworth was sent to the showers early. 115 year old Arley Movsisyan was inspired by Patrício Mansilla's goal last night and answered back as the battle between the centenarian scorers gets rolling. Movsisyan controlled a cross from outside the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot that Vikings goalie Marecek Palecek, 85 years his junior, couldn't touch as it rippled the back of the net. Arley announced after the game that he and the Dragons have agreed to a contract extension to keep him in a Swamp City kit for another 115 seasons.

In the final game this morning, SwampDragons United won their opening game in Group B with a 2-0 road win against Real TK. The French side couldn't get things going, despite 60,000 fans screaming their support. Jerrad Forko topped off the scoring with his 9th minute goal but the final dagger came in the 58th when Yerimen Varas tried to break the ankles of Swamp U midfielder Roger Alice and was promptly red carded. Being down by 2 and now down a man, the fans finally settled down and the Dragons ran out the clock on what was otherwise a competitive game.

I'll update the 7pm games later this evening.

Well...it looks like it is not going to be FC Cackalacky's tournament, at least in the top half of the draw. Playing their fourth Group G game in a couple of days, they faced a must win against Bolton Wanderers in front of nearly 45,000 Bolton fans. Cackalacky held the possession, outshot the home side and generally outplayed their opponent but a lack of offensive quality doomed their chances as they fell 2-1. The game was scoreless until the 68th minute when Kagetoki Inoue drilled a corner cross into the net. After teammate Prince Pinter made the score 2-0 a few minutes later, Cackalacky again dominated the ball and finally broke through when Pedro Delfs scored unassisted but it was too little too late. The American side now will play spoiler and prepare for the Bums, assuming they participate.

FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds suffered their first loss in Group G play when they dropped a 3-1 decision on the road against FC Not Very Athletic. Sandro Huntelaar got things off to a quick start for the Bullet Birds when his 2nd minute shot beat goalie Derrick Richardson as the ball just crossed the goal line. However, after that, it was all Athletic as they scored three unanswered. Ross McEntee tied the game in the 14th when his rising shot bounced in underneath the crossbar and a pair of goals by Javian Simmons gave Athletic all three points.

Group E had its first draw when FC Trojans of SC and Wolfsburg Dynamit played to a 1-1 tie in southern Cal. The two goals were scored almost 80 minutes apart, with Wolfsburg netting in the 8th off a Videl Skeffington shot and the Trojans managing to split the points with only three minutes remaining after Udayle Velázquez directed a header into the far upper corner in the 87th. In Group D, another draw was the result when FC Gimli Vikings and Fianna AFC drew 2-2 in Sweden as the Greens scored a short-handed goal to grab a point. After jumping up 2-0, Gimli once again lost a lead, this time seeing their advantage disappear even after Finn McRickard was shown the door in the 55th for tripping. Fianna was able to get level when Huntingdon Hinson painted the corner and the Vikings couldn't capitalize on their extra player. The result gives Gimli an 0-1-2 record as they are playing good soccer but are not getting rewarded with stage points.

There are a bunch of games tomorrow as we begin the heart of the group stage schedule.
