FIVE YEAR CONTRACT LEAGUE (5yC) 1946- Topic

If we can claim a franchise then I will take the Cardinals….if a player has a missing season, does that count as a season? Another question, if we make a trade, does the contract season lengths have to match?

if a player has a missing season, does that count as a season?

answer:
It counts as one of his five - even though he doesnt play

example:
I draft John Doe in the initial 1946 draft
My Brooklyn Dodgers have signed John Doe to a five season contract

1946 -
1947 - He does NOT have a What IF Sports season (In real life he is injured and cant play - )
in our 1947 Draft - in the SIXTH ROUND - I get a 'WAIVER' pick for ONE SEASON contract to replace John Doe.

1948 - John Doe has a What If Sports season - he is back on 25 man roster
1949
1950 - John Does last of his five seasons in Brooklyn

John Doe has only a five season contract - the missing year is a part of that five year span -
any missed season (or seasons) are part of the five year contract
(and of course The Brooklyn Dodger knew that Doe would be missng '47 and need a waiver draft replacement back when they originally drafted him)

example #2
In 1951 Brooklyn Dodgers draft John Smith
He only has 1951 season and then he retires
Booklyn will need a sixth round waiver pick for:
1952, 53, 54, and 55

yes, I think that is the way I have the rule set.

I am open to tweak and adjust trade rules once we have 12 owners -

The system of turning over rosters for five seasons is a carry over from a 25 plus season WIS Basketball league -
In that league there are NO TRADES -

I think Baseball tends to lend itself to needing trades more so than a 12 man basketball roster
I think the ideal there is that in progressive leagues - trades were always a MAJOR source of frustration and controversy -
And lopsided trades that helped crown champs or degilitate derelict clubs were getting out of hand.....

SO - I don't think we should be without trades - but I tend to want to somewhat keep a handle on trades that ruin leagues.
If that's possible

Again, I am open to tweak and or adjust trade rules once we have 12 owners

reminder -
our league Franchises have NO CONNECTION or rights
to players who were part of those teams IN REAL LIFE.

example: the NY Yankees dont have any rights or claims on Joe Dimaggio or Mickey Mantle. etc etc

had a question sent to me via site mail that may be helpful:

Question (I may have more) In the initial draft, I draft 5 players with their last year of eligibility left (one year contract). They will be released at the end of the season but can be redrafted for a full 5 year contract in season two. Is this correct?

YES, that is correct.

This first season, each of our 12 Franchises will draft 25 players.
To stagger salary length for each Franchise –
Each round in this initial draft will dictate the length of salary for the players contract.

Example:
1st round: Each player has a 5-year salary…
2nd round: Each player has a 4-year salary…
3rd round: Each player has a 3-year salary…
4th round: Each player has a 2-year salary…
5th round: Each player has a 1-year salary…
6th round: Each player has a 5-year salary…
7th round: Each player has a 4-year salary…
And so on

At the conclusion of this initial draft, (and in every subsequent season)
EACH Franchise will have
5 players with 5 seasons remaining
5 players with 4 seasons remaining
5 players with 3 seasons remaining
5 players with 2 seasons remaining
5 players with 1 seasons remaining

AND
If A TEAM HAS A PLAYER WHO HAS A MISSING WHAT IF SPORTS SEASON –
That Franchise may draft a one year replacement in ‘waiver’ DRAFT (6TH ROUND)

In - St. Louis Browns - Sportsman Park
Cool -
I considered taking on the St. Louis Browns -

interesting franchise -
stuck there in St. Louis, overshadowed by the Cardinals, sharing Sportsman Park -
definitely the weak sister....
and then eventually moving to Baltimore to become the Orioles.

I guess they were an oddity in that they moved EAST - unlike the Dodgers, Giants, or Boston Braves.

what made you take on the Browns?
