Questions: Must seasons run consecutively beginning in 1946.? Can I draft a player with five or more years active on a 1, 2,3 or 4 year contract? In season two and later can I draft players with less than five years active knowing that I will need to replace them with a waiver in later years? My understanding is that "Replacements" are drafted for one year only regardless of their actual active years (My original drafted player has only 2 years left, I will need to draft a new "replacement" in each subsequent year?

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking - but this is a progressive, so YES the seasons will progress starting in 46.
Can I draft a player with five or more years active on a 1, 2,3 or 4 year contract?
YES - definitely - It does not matter how many seasons a player has PAST the end of our WIS them of five year contracts -
The guy will reenter our free agent pool at the end of his theme contract - so hopefully he will have many seasons left to be a part of our theme.
In season two and later can I draft players with less than five years active knowing that I will need to replace them with a waiver in later years?
YES - players who have productivity left, but with fewer real life seasons than our five season contract can be drafted.
When those guys are drafted is a big part of your strategic thinking as a GM.
examples:
Joe DiMaggio retires in 1951
I assume he will be a first round pick in our initial draft; that would make him a free agent before his last season of 1950.
I would bet that someone takes a chance on him for two seasons with the understanding that they will need waiver picks for his next 3 missing seasons.
(I think DiMaggio was still hitting homeruns after he retired, and Marilyn Monroe was doing the catching.)
My understanding is that "Replacements" are drafted for one year only regardless of their actual active years (My original drafted player has only 2 years left, I will need to draft a new "replacement" in each subsequent year?
YES - it doesnt matter how many season a player has after his contract is up....
