Also, I hate guys with big OVRs that I have to pay out the *** to keep.

I think he's leveled off to some degree with too much room under projections to rationally expect him to reach. He'll be a third basemen, regardless. But I don't know that his bat will ever really make him more than good. For someone who started in AA at 18 and by 20 has two mediocre years at AAA, he has no business going to the Majors next season. But the third season at a certain level is when players start to stagnate. I cannot expect similar improvements at the AAA level next year, so he'll almost have to be a mid-season call-up. At that point I'd have to strive to make sure he'll get the necessary at-bats to improve. But looking at his current ratings, he isn't really worth starting every day.

I think I tried to trade for Ozuna a couple of times at some point from someone. I would build my whole franchise around low STA starters and low DUR position players if I could.

I'd be trading a middling corner outfielder with speed, who is an average at best leadoff man. The pitcher is actually pretty good, but very inconsistent, and probably the key piece. He has a good contract, but still wouldn't be bad for me to shed that salary.

Last piece is a good but not great closer, whose biggest attributes are durability and stamina. He is a tandem dream, like a poor man's Grieve, but his inflated overall meant I had to pay a steep price to keep him.

The deal would send my fourth outfielder and two good pitchers with a combined $14m in salaries per season for the next four seasons and get me someone I could swing for something cheaper and more reasonable.

I think you have to pay particular attention when having a team full of these types. I always value them because their peripherals will be so high that they're worth exploiting, but it takes a lot more doting than I care to spend most of the time.

Yeah, sounds good to me. I think you like speed a lot more than I do though, so I probably also like the deal more than you.

And at that I bat him leadoff and enjoy the results

Nah. Have a solid bench with guys that can play lots of positions (while being good situational hitters) along with a staff that can hang tough at 11 men (usually the sort that you guys would consider glitchy or unrealistic) and it is really easy. Rarely do people play below 99%. NL, pitching park and you probably win 100 games checking a few times a week.

I like speed but I don't covet it, if that makes sense. I usually keep one speed guy on my team, just for match-ups and pinch-running in the playoffs. It has paid off for me at times. Speed is nice for guys who can casually steal 20+ bases while still being effective otherwise. Almanzar is one whose speed makes him special to me. Basically any time I have a very good player, I feel high speed and baserunning can make him great.

It means nothing without great baserunning, though.
