OK, I have found exactly one team in this entire tournament for which I am going to make an exception regarding the roster rules. The 1918 Red Sox are a unique situation with a unique problem, and there is no other team that is remotely comparable, so this exception will be ONLY for the 1918 Red Sox.
The issue is this: Babe Ruth.
In 1918, Ruth - like Ohtani in 2021-23 - REGULARLY both pitched and played the outfield. He pitched in 20 games, started 19, and threw 166.1 IP for the Red Sox that season. Unlike Ohtani, we do not have a pitching version of Ruth in the database; he only exists as an OF. To make matters worse, the Red Sox only played 126 games that season, because of WW1, and unlike 2020, WIS did not prorate the minimum requirements for WIS eligibility. So the Sox have only 5 pitchers and only 1163 IP/162. If they had Ruth available to them as a pitcher, they would have well over 1300 IP.
Prorated to 162 games, Ruth would have thrown 214 IP. His actual WHIP was 1.05, BB/9 = 2.7, HR/9 = 0.1
I am going to allow the 1918 Red Sox to roster 1919 Jimmy Ring, whose stats are: 212 IP/162, WHIP = 1.1, BB/9 = 2.93, HR/9 = 0.1.
This is the closest pitcher I can find in the seasons immediately surrounding 1918 who mirrors Ruth's pitching stats so closely. He should normalize very similarly to how Ruth would. Of course, Ring won't hit like Ruth did when he is on the mound, but this is the closest I can come to giving the 1918 Sox a comparable pitcher to replace Ruth.
Again, this is an extreme case - I am not making this decision because the Red Sox are short of pitchers. I am making this decision because a pitcher WHOM THEY SHOULD HAVE AVAILABLE TO THEM is not in the database.
