How many of the current Top 24 (at the 162 game mark) will make the cage? Plenty of heavy hitters still on the outside looking in

Imposter syndrome is starting to kick in. Glad to get a couple good cycles today because it had been quite the slide for what I think are some of my better teams

Kicking myself for not even looking at a Lajoie team for the $140M. That offense is just too good. Seems likely to end up as the right/best pick.

lol. My Lajoie team begs to differ.

WIS really needs to fix the 9th inning garbage in this game. Already had multiple multi-run blown saves after retiring the first two hitters of the inning.

Up 6-4 with two outs and no one on in the AM games, and single, single, HBP, single, single for the loss. With two very good, rested relievers on the mound.
What a shock. PM game, up 9-6 going into the 9th in the $120M league. First two hitters retired, then single, walk, walk, single, triple, loss.

Absolutely ridiculous that this happens so much.
I was originally going to reply to this with some snark, but that would be counterproductive.

I feel like if there were a 9th inning problem in the sim, it would show up via consistently, uncharacteristically low save percentages for closers used in a typical modern 9th inning, save situation fashion. The majority of my teams employ closers in this fashion, and I have never noticed anything out of the ordinary in this regard. Similarly, when perusing leaderboards, save percentages for the save leaders don't generally strike me as being out of whack. In the two current Juice tournament leagues, which use modern teams and are almost complete, the cumulative save percentages among the top 25 pitchers in saves are 84.6% and 83.1% respectively. Teams in these leagues average 5.55 and 5.65 runs/game, so a bit more offensive than the typical RL league. As such, those save percentages don't strike me as unreasonable.

Now that I've supplied what I consider to be a reasoned response, in the interest of full disclosure here's my originally planned aforementioned snark:

"They really need to fix the 9th inning garbage in this game. Up 5-3 with two outs and no one on in the 10th, and single, single, single, wild pitch, error for the loss."

- John McNamara, 10/26/86, probably
I appreciate the reasoned response.

While the overall percentages may not seem problematic, there’s definitely an increased frequency of multi-run blown saves in this game when the first two hitters of the inning are retired. I’d wager the majority of teams in the majors go the full season without blowing a 2+ run lead when retiring the first two hitters in the 9th.

in the “stud” league, I just watched the sim intentionally walk Hamilton to pitch to Hornsby with 2 outs, a man on 2nd, and a 1-run lead in the bottom of the 9th. Heart attack! But, it worked out, and we won 2-1.

A 14th inning loss away from a schwarze in the PM games.

My teams have been meh for the most part, one is going thru a fatigue death spiral, but finally got my first Schwarze!
7/11/2025 2:26 PM
While you guys are collecting Schwarzes my teams earned their second Mauch of this young season.

Speaking of improbable blown saves: my 120M team (with a .667 win pct) gave up 9 runs in the bottom of the 9th to blow a 10-2 lead. There were no errors or HR's. After one out, it was basically hit, hit, hit, hit, walk, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, well you get the picture. At least my other 5 teams won in that cycle to soften the blow. Gotta love this game!

So in contrarian23’s World Series tournament, I drew the 2003 Yankees. In Round 1 Mariano Rivera went 49/49 in save opportunities. We made Round 2 and thus far he’s 23/23 and sports a 0.79 ERA. Those leagues have average salaries around $85m.

Cut to this tournament and I pick the 2005 Yanks for the 80m theme. I rostered 2003 Rivera, though I hadn’t even thought about the connection to the other tournament. In fact I set this roster like 6 weeks ago now.

Anyway, thus far in this shebang, Rivera has blown 2 saves, has a 7.02 ERA and his OAV is .338. He’s already matched his RL total of 13 earned runs allowed and we are only 40 games in. I guess my luck had to run out somehow.

Lost 4 games in the 9th or later in the AM session.
7/12/2025 5:21 AM
What's with all these extra innings? Surely i can survive with 95% fatigue but I'd rather not.
7/12/2025 5:44 PM
My first 0-6.
Having a rough start.
I remain hopeful as emanes10’s 140m Nap Lajoie team and contrarian23’s 100m 1909-1911 Cubs are two of the best teams in the tourney and I have almost identical squads that continue to underperform. I’m hoping the regression is my teams towards them and not the other way around.

In my $140M team, I have tried to start Dutch Leonard the other Speaker teams since most are very heavily left-handed (vs other teams).

vs Speaker teams: 3 starts, 17.2 ip, 31 hits, 21 runs, 20 earned, 10.19 era
vs all other teams: 4 starts, 23.2 ip, 21 hits, 10 runs, 8 earned, 3.04 era
Make it make sense.

There are eight 1914 Dutch Leonards in the league. Their ERAs: 1.42, 2.74, 3.33, 3.38, 3.56, 3.72, 5.61, 6.06.
7/13/2025 7:54 AM
In the 140m league I keep getting swept by Speaker teams... there's a lot of those and Pedros... I got the latter
