Survival of the Fittest is a term coined by Herbert Spencer in place of Darwin's phrase, natural selection. Darwin, agrees that survival of the fittest is a more apt term for what he was trying to convey and it's specifically pointed out in a footnote of Man Versus the State, how the theory of survival of the fittest should not be used when talking about militant societies.

Fittest also has nothing to do with physicality. Think more like pieces fitting in a puzzle...organisms with the environment they are trying to survive in, than strength.
