WS Tournament ($200 in prizes, FULL!) Topic

I'm pretty sure I drew the worst World Series team of all-time... and they actually won the World Series.

This team finished 7th in the A.L. in runs scored. This team finished 9th in the A.L. in runs allowed. They finished the season with a negative run differential. They did lead the A.L. in fielding percentage. but their range is poor (not a single A+, A or A- range player on the roster)

The salary of their top 25 players, $62 million.

This team will lose 100 games in this tournament.

1987 Minnesota Twins

Interestingly, I just posted (in the first post on P1) the prizes for this tournament. We have $200 in prizes...

One of those prizes will go to which of the 10 teams (1 from each league) with the worst real-life winning percentage posts the highest win % in round 1. The 1987 Twins are one of the 10 teams that are eligible for this prize.

Interestingly, of these 10 teams. FIVE of them did win their world series. In addition to the Twins, the 1926 Cardinals, 1945 Tigers, 1959 Dodgers, and 2006 Cardinals all won the WS. The 2006 Cards hold the record for the worst winning percentage for a World Series champ.

Judging by some of the sitemails I've received, a lot of owners have never played an actual MLB team on WIS before. I've received no less than 4 messages (just from the first 2 leagues that have gone live) saying something to the effect of "this must be the worst team to ever be in a World Series." Yes, real MLB teams, even ones that made the World Series, have weaknesses. 70M salary in WIS is a VERY GOOD team from real MLB.

If you're using an 80M OL as your benchmark, it's surprising how mediocre a real MLB team looks. Your typical 80M OL team is much better than even the best MLB teams from any given season.

Gotta support the best commissioner on this site. I’ll take two teams - one in league one and one in league nine.
