When a players contract expires can you redraft them them in the following draft. (i.e. Feller is on a 5 year contract. If I were to want to could I redraft him in Season 6?)

IV – PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

STAGGERED REENTRY: To break the cycle of ‘boom or bust’ draft classes, a players eligibility to be redrafted is based on his draft order. Players drafted in odd numbered slots (1,3,5,17th…) can return in odd# years (ex: 1993, 1995, 1997…) after becoming a FREE AGENT. Players drafted in even numbered draft positions (#2, 4, 6…22nd…) can return in EVEN# years (1982, 2012, 2014, 2016…) after graduation.
EXAMPLE #1: John Doe is drafted in the SEASON TWO draft – Doe is picked with SIXTH pick of 2nd round. He plays season 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. He was selected with an EVEN numbered draft pick – he can return EVEN number season: ELIGIBLE season EIGHT. He would sit out season SEVEN.
EXAMPLE #2 Jimmy Smith is picked with 11th pick of round three in season SIX. He plays seasons 6,7,8,9, and 10. He is eligible to return season ELEVEN (because selected w/ ODD# pick).
(this can EASILY be determined and tracked in Player Selected List)

I'm considering potentially 'relaxing' or doing away with 'staggering'
reentry of players from contract expiration to being eligible again.
Or, it might warrant keeping.

The intent is to stagger boom classes.
Im sure the 1951 draft will be much stronger than 1950 or 1952 draft
due in large part to the first rounders from 46 becoming free agents.

That works well in NBA league, due in large part to our using three seasons in that theme.

I think it warrants discussion after this initial draft,
and before the lottery determines next seasons draft order.
We'd need to examine available pool of players before the 1947 draft begins.

It seems to me there shouldn't be a waiting period to redraft a players. If we want to use a draft pick we should be able to pick whoever is eligible. Like in my example with Feller he should be eligible again in our 6th season. There is just as much a chance as he could be drafted by another team. Real life players do not have to sit out a season before they can play again.

Damn, I was really hoping he'd make it to me. He was a really underated power hitter in the late 40's and 50's. Him and Ashburn were a pretty good OF for the Phillies.

reminder that we are on the clock and that the 3 hour skip rule is in place. It has been more than 3 hours since kujhawker has picked (3:24 pm).
Husker can go ahead and pick and coyote can make his back pick whenever he can. We have 25 rounds, need to keep it moving.


DRAFT CLOCK:
I have assigned a draft clock – with our first date / time that gets clock ticking:
TUE. 7/15
9:00 AM
That should give us plenty of cushion to get ahead of the clock, before slow picks finally will need to be skipped.
ONCE we go so slow that we get to the clock, then as soon as your time arrives – you can SKIP all before you who have yet to pick. The draft regains its momentum as soon as the clock enables the slow pick to be passed over.

ALSO –
THREE HOUR RULE

We will also utilize the THREE HOUR RULE –

ONCE TUESDAY at 9 AM arrives, regardless of how far ahead we might be in the draft,
IF an owner has taken more than three hours – and still has not made a pick,
The next guy waiting can pick.
Once the next guy up has skipped the slow pick owner, then the draft can unfold as usual, and the three hour rule begin ticking again.
This probably wont need to be utilized, as it seems most drafts get to the clock and that serves as a prompt to hurry along slower picks.
The three hours ticking stops at 9PM and resumes at 8 AM (as needed)

I miss out on some players but you can't play baseball without a back stop so the Brave will take Andy Seminick - C as our 2nd 5 year pick.
