As a theme to get owners to use more unique players instead of the usual suspects, I stumbled upon the idea of a league where each owner uses players from a randomly-selected birth year.
We're in the playoffs for our first set of seasons (1929-52), and we need a few more owners for our next season (1953-1976). You'll have $100M to spend on your roster, which gives almost everyone a fighting chance to make the playoffs. Our first season has been full of unexpected results and stars: Reggie Smith as an MVP blowing away Mantle, Mays, etc., and Pat Jarvis as a Cy Young winner over Koufax et al..
Eventually we hope to use all of the birth years between 1857-2000 over six seasons, and then run a Tournament of Champions for the final four teams from each season.
We have 13 owners who have signed up to return and I will post the draw for their random seasons below. Come and join us!
EDIT: I forgot to add the rules so here is the full wrap:
DH in both leagues.
No WW or trades, you can only play with your the players you draft for your given birth year.
You must choose a manager who was born in your given year, and choose a home park from one of the seasons that he managed. If nobody born in that year was ever a manager, then you can choose any player on your roster as your manager, and take the ballpark they played in the season you've drafted for them.
