All-Decade League- Potential Interest? Topic

MLB 143299. The rules are rather simple:

Choose a decade. Then create an all-decade team using only players from that 10-year time period. $140 mil salary cap, no WW, clones, trades or AAA.

Now, here's the added part. There can only be a maximum of 4 teams per decade. The divisions will be aligned based on the decade you choose. For example, all 2010-2019 teams would be placed in one division, all 2000-2009 teams in another division, and so on.

Next, the oldest 12 teams (by decade #) will be placed in the National League and will not use a DH. The newest 12 teams will be placed in the American League and will use the DH. This is designed to curb the added hitting depth established around the 80s and ensure more competitive parody across each decade.

Simple format, but I think it could be a cool concept to explore. The division alignment is aimed to curb some of the advantages of dead ball era pitchers. If it is successful, I have plans in expanding it into a possible progressive league, but I will explain that if this idea catches on and is successful.

I've played in a league like this before and the general consensus was that it works better if you separate the eras. Being able to use deadball pitchers really gives an advantage to those earlier decades and just absolutely throttles any teams using decades that rely on more power - almost to the point that you don't really have much of a chance. If we drew the line and said the earliest decade available is the 20s (for example) I'd definitely play.

Good insight. My plan to separate the decades by league and division is designed to curb some of the advantages that deadball pitchers have, but I would 100% be okay with drawing a line and making the 20s the earliest decade available. Since I have never played in a league like this I will defer to some of you veterans on what the best course of action is to maintain a competitive playing field.

Another potential way to level the playing field could be to set the salary cap for the pre 1920 decades slightly lower either way I would participate in this

If you remember, how big was the gap between pre-1920 teams and the field?

Sorry, I forgot to check back on this. Don't get me wrong, modern teams can compete but you essentially have to build completely around Home Runs since the deadballers all have such extremely low HR/9. Just kind of paints any modern decades into a corner in terms of the type of team they can build because it's just not worth paying for HRs which really limits your selections.

I'm building a team, but a couple questions:

1) Can I assume we are only allowed stadiums that were active during our decade?
2) How will we know whether or not we need to draft a DH before the league is full and you know which decades will be in which leagues?

I meant to make a note of each of these, and I definitely should have specified better:

1) Yes, please only use a stadium that was around during your decade
2) Obviously, if you choose a fringe decade like the 70s or 80s there is a chance you will need the DH, but also the potential that you will not need it. I know that makes things kind of limiting when making roster decisions. I will try to keep this forum updated as we get new teams and the divisions come into focus. Because there is a set procedure for how divisions will be set, once there are only a couple spots left if you need to make changes to your roster to accommodate the DH vs no DH, you are more than welcome to do so.

I would bank on the fact that no decade earlier than the 70s will need a DH, and likely the 70s will not need one either. I know that is entirely speculative and there's no way to know for sure until we get more teams signed up, but that is just my best guess.
