Basic Concept
I’ve always wanted to do a progressive league that spans the entire WIS database, but didn’t want it to LITERALLY take decades to complete. This league will allow us to cover all of the seasons in the database without taking a lifetime (I’m 51 so I could easily die before a standard single season progressive league would finish).
This will be a progressive league that moves through history at an accelerated pace. I would love to have 24 teams but I am willing to go with fewer if we don’t get enough interest to get there. We will start by drafting five players from five different blocks of time for a total of 25 total players. The five blocks of time will be as follows:
- 1885-89 (Round 1-5)
- 1890-94 (Round 6-10)
- 1895-99 (Round 11-15)
- 1900-04 (Round 16-20)
- 1905-09 (Round 21-25)
All players must be drafted in the time block that they were a rookie. You will not be required to start with the player’s rookie year. However, once you pick a starting year, you must progress chronologically with that player going forward. Missing seasons in the database may be skipped over without penalty, but you can’t skip over undesirable seasons.
At the end of season one, we’ll have a new five round draft using rookies from 1910-14. After the draft is completed, owners will need to vacate five roster spots through player retirement and cutting players. The same thing will happen after season two, using the 1915-19 seasons. We will continue to repeat this process until we catch up to current times. At that point we can either end the league or roll over and start back with 1885-89.
WIS Rules
- League Format - Standard WIS format if we reach 24; otherwise we will choose one of the alt formats with a preference for interleague play and more playoff teams.
- Salary Cap - Maximum
- Ballparks - May use any ballpark with park effects between.95 and 1.05. Parks are not exclusive and you must use that park for at least five seasons before changing.
- League Settings:
- Random alignment each season
- DH will be used in both leagues (we will have an excess of PA’s so why not use them).
- No injuries
- No waiver wire
- No AAA
- Trades allowed (vetoes set to max number)
Other Rules
- All players are exclusive.
- Players who are cut will drop out of the player pool and are not eligible to be picked up by another team.
- Random draft with a snake style format will be used for all drafts.
- In the unlikely event a team ends up with 6+ players retiring in the same year, that owner can make additional picks at the conclusion of that draft to reach 25 players.
- Draft picks may only be traded in the current/next scheduled draft.
