I don't think this will get enough interest to run a 24 team league, but we can try. At least it will be a fun puzzle for people to play with and figure out.
If you don't know what the immaculate grid is, let me explain. It is a 3 x 3 grid like tic tac toe. There are 3 categories on the rows, and 3 categories on the columns and they intersect with one another. The categories are things such as team names, HOF, statistical categories like career 10+ PPG, or a rookie class or other non team categories. You have to choose players who fit both categories to fill each grid piece. For example, lets say you are filling in a spot on the grid that has LA Lakers in the row and the Miami Heat in the Column. You have to choose a player who played for both teams in his career (according to basketball reference, not WIS, so less than 200 min seasons count). And choose either the Laker or Heat season. In this example, you could choose any Laker or Heat LeBron season, or you could choose any laker or Heat Shaq season. You could not take a LeBron cavalier season or a shaq orlando season because although that player fits the categories, the cavs and orlando are not the teams in the categories.
As questions have come up, I will try to add in more explanations to make sure everything is summarized concisely in the rules.
If you get a
season bonus category 1 way such as 20+PPG, or 10+APG, or 10+RPG, and a franchise in the intersecting line, you first must find someone who played for that franchise in at least 1 season, and a different or same season where they met the bonus category. Then you may elect to take either any season for the franchise, or any season they met the bonus like 20+ PPG even if if is from a different franchise. For example, lets says you get 20+PPG season and Lakers, you could take the 66-67 Wilt Chamberlain season.
If you get a
career bonus category 1 way such as HOF, 1st rd draft pick, born outside of U.S., 20+PPG "career avg", and a franchise in the intersecting you basically get to pick any season of a player that also played for that franchise but it does not have to be as season for that franchise. For example, lets say you get clippers, and born outside of U.S., you can take Shai's 24-25 Thunder season.
Only for this inaugural season, we will allow a mulligan re-draw request because some non bonus draws at this cap cannot compete with the caliber of what other teams can assemble. Future leagues will be a lower cap to help balance the playing field.
Upon signing up, you will be assigned a random historical date and that is the grid you will have to work with. Basically the idea of this puzzle is to construct a 12 person team by finding 9 players from the grid, plus 3 players under $1M salary each as scrub fillers to complete a 12 player roster.
