Joey Votto, Ichiro, and Edgar Martinez.
Agreed...these guys have been terrible for me so many times. Rarely use them now.

Crazy man! 3 of the best bats in MLB History. But can't hit here.

Ernie Banks has to be near the top of the list for me...
Yes, you dont see him in many leagues even high caps. I just look at the numbers and think played at Wrigley yet only hit .270ish. Yes had some big HR years but not much else. A good guy on a bad team.

BTW...RIP...Dave "The Cobra" Parker. He was a BEAST....I remember watching this week in baseball every week and seeing that throw for RF.

Where to begin? Vida Blue (except for low IP `70 season), Steve Carlton, Luis Tiant (invariably), Joe Morgan, Willie Mays (except for `59), most of my beloved Yankees, especially Mantle (except for `52, which is great), DiMaggio, Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra, Trout, Pujols, Ernie Banks and Griffey Junior.

I have to agree on the Joe Morgan best season.
Always a dud. Never hits no matter the stadium. I have used him a lot; Now strictly as a defensive replacement in a big cap league.

There must be a logical explanation but I don’t know what it is.

Mike Trout. Sadly, usually Ichiro too.
I'll see your Ichiro and raise you Joe Morgan. Never get expected value out of either of them.
I don't know how I forgot to mention Cal Ripken who never has a good season for me. Some of his higher priced seasons provided me with true subpar performances.

Agree on Ripken. This thread inspired me to put together an OL team of (nearly) all underperformers. Trout is too expensive for an OL and Eckersley's relief seasons are pricey as well. Beyond position players, starting pitchers and Whitey Ford and Mariano Rivera (a chronic underperformer) in the bullpen, I filled out the scrubs and the rest of my relievers with players I would use normally. The goal is to actually try to win with these guys.

Here's the team (playing in Baker Bowl)

C 1951 Yogi Berra
1B 2009 Joey Votto
2B 1999 Bobby Grich
3B 1982 Joe Morgan
SS 1957 Ernie Banks
LF 1988 Rickey Henderson
CF 2008 Ichiro Suzuki
RF 1993 Rickey Henderson
UTIL 1957 Ron Jackson
UTIL 1957 Dee Fondy
UTIL 1953 Connie Ryan
UTIL 1992 Donnie Hill
UTIL 1923 Pinky Hargrave

SP 1976 Vida Blue
SP 1981 Steve Carlton
SP 1947 Warren Spahn
P 1908 Nick Carter
P 1907 Rube Vickers
P 1968 Roy Face
P 2012 Mariano Rivera
P 1967 Whitey Ford
P 1918 Harry Weaver
P 1940 Johnny Podgajny
P 1995 Mike Birkbeck
P 1906 Jim Moroney

I'm putting together another OL team of underperformers w/ the following lineup: C 1951 Yogi Berra; 1B 1997 Edgar Martinez; 2B 1982 Joe Morgan; 3B 2004 Alex Rodriguez; SS 2012 Derek Jeter; LF 1986 Jim Rice; CF 1999 Ken Griffey Jr.; and RF 1988 Rickey Henderson. Open to suggestions on a pitching staff.

2021 DeGrom and 1888 Elton Chamberlain have amazing stats but if you splurge on them you will probably be disappointed. Not even close to the best pitchers on my team. I've found that lower inning SP's almost always underperform fulltime starters. Even the beloved Kershaw's 149 ip season underperforms for me.

He's overpriced. I've used him in HR leagues and he performs where I would expect from his stats, not where he is priced.
