Surprising that with such loyal fans that no one has stepped up to grab their favorite team to represent. It's been 5 seasons since this franchise has been to the playoffs and 18 seasons since winning the division. Now is the time for a vet owner to jump in to turn this team around and build a new tradition for the Cardinals. There was a valiant effort made last season to reach .500 but the team fell 2 games short.
While the Cards hit over 200 HRs the offense wasn't much more than average with 690 runs scored and posting a .242 batting average. Ubaldo Jimenez carries a huge bat and produced in a big way (50, 115, .252). Adding some more support both in table setters and run producers will be needed to get this team firing on all cylinders.
All 5 starting pitchers hit double digits in losses, but they also made 30 starts and 3 finished with double digit win totals. 4 of the SP's posted sub 4 ERAs and the team combined for a 3.79 ERA so while a few tweaks wouldn't hurt, the staff is in decent shape. Adding a starter to the front of the rotation would push everyone else down a spot and strength the staff overall. Adding a couple of solid arms to the bullpen would also help to make this team more dangerous.
The new owner could be a vet or newbie. A vet could assess the team quickly and make some upgrades to reshape this team and enhance it's future. A newbie could cut his teeth on a team that while being competitive, could also be improved slowly while learning the ropes.
