I'm 45 but have 5 kids (ages 1, 5, 8, 10, 14) so I'm hoping they can keep me young for a while:). Coaching my son's 3rd and 4th grade youth team this year so that should be a lot of fun. Just handed out equipment to all the boys this past week. Looking forward to getting out on the practice field.
Coached for almost 20 years. This tip really helped me when getting to know their names. We had about 18 kids on a team and that's a lot of names to remember and remember quickly if you want to add credibility to your "coaching". To help with that, I had two captains (preferably returning players) out front to lead the calisthenics and the rest faced them in four columns of four deep. That group was in last name alphabetic order front row to last, left to right ;) Having their last names on the front of their helmets also helped.
Majique tip, want to reduce fumbles? Partially deflate an old football, place a hand drawn air pump with the needle under water, draw water into the pump, insert needle into football, inject water. Fill until football is normal tightness. Now make ball handlers do their drills with the "water ball(s)". The chaotic sloshing inside the football when it's being used creates instability, and the players subconciously adjust their grip and 3-points of contact to stabilize the ball. Then, when they're using a normal ball they maintain so much better ball tuck that fumbles are reduced - greatly.
