I'm OK with Lowe as best of the maulers who were unplayable defensively. A few words on others:
• Banks: A plus-plus defender at premium positions — 191 +plays to 2 -plays at CF, 2B and LF — who had a nearly .900 OPS, more than 550 homers and 300 steals, and collected every career accolade but a World Series ring. Should be a shoo-in.
• Fernandez: Decorated infielder who won three World Series titles while surpassing 460 homers and steals, turning in an .866 career OPS while playing plus defense at second and third base.
• Oropesa: While his offensive numbers suffered due to calling Seattle home for most of his career, Oropesa still managed 425 homers, 416 steals and a .797 OPS while collecting several Gold Gloves and four World Series rings. His 187 +plays at 3B are fifth all-time in Stickball history.
• Camacho: This dude could still give you 210 innings of a 4.15 ERA at 42. In addition to the 3.87 career ERA, 271 wins and 3,403 strikeouts, he'd third in league history in complete games (105) and shutouts (27) and fifth in +plays by pitchers (52).
• Ashby: A similar case to Camacho — Gold Glove, 3.64 ERA, 3,245 Ks, 245 wins, fourth in Stickball history in complete games (91) — but didn't start quite as many games.
• Ryan: A elite reliever who didn't close for much of his career. Is there a place for that profile in our Cooperstown? Dominant stuff for a long stretch: 3.26 ERA, .219 OAV, 1.10 WHIP.
