2026 BOWIS - $340 in prize money (Need 5) Topic

Things decided in BOWIS meeting last night:

1. The 24-25/25-26 draft will be ABBBBB instead of ABBABB. Looking at past drafts, there is a distinct advantage to having a top 2 pick. This counteracts that a little.
2. The wildcard league will be a live auction draft. It does not require users to be present for the whole draft and does not require users to be face-to-face online at any point. The whole draft can be done on your phone.
3. The 1st draft of the year will be decided by a group vote. All 24 users will get to vote on the following 5 leagues with the winner becoming the draft we use:
a. Large Hadron Collider
b. 50/50
c. 2 man show
d. Alphabet Soup
e. Three point shootout

a. Large Hadron Collider
i. Draft league with 6 pairs of clones
ii. 6 round draft
iii. ABBABB
iv. $50M

b. 50/50
i. All players drafted must be below 50 efg% or 50 defense
ii. ABABAB with the 6th round being a double round
iii. $50M

c. 2 man show
i. 2 players on entire roster can have above 27.2 usage. Everyone else must be below 17.5.
ii. ABABAB with the 6th round being a double round.
iii. $48M

d. Alphabet Soup
i. Two round snake draft
ii. draft a letter and either first name or last name
iii. Example: If I draft last name C and first name D, all players on my roster must have a first name starting with D or a last name starting with C.
iv. Must have at least 5 players on your roster for each letter.
v. $48M

e. Three point shootout
i. Must have 1000 made threes on your roster
ii. ABABAB with the 6th round being a double round.
iii. $48M

Apologies for not being able to make the call. Was there any discussion of how the divisions will be aligned? The random alignment for each league can lead to the same owners being in divisions with each other a disproportionate number of times. If we mapped out the divisions in advance we could avoid this.

It was not brought up. I am open to changing it if someone comes up with something that is clearly better. For right now, the plan is still to do random.

You could make them based on where they drafted.

DIVISION A - 1-6
DIVISION B - 7-12
DIVISION C - 13-18
DIVISION D - 19-24

I messed around with AI and arrived here. The Numbers can be assigned to owners based on the Random Alignment in the first league. The parameters I used were: every owner is in a division with every other owner at least once, two owners are never in a division together 3 times, and clusters of three owners in 1 division never repeat. I think there might be 1 or 2 exceptions to the parameters, but it's definitely a huge improvement over 6 random draws IMO.

Ai is probably not the best optimization tool. Just checked the first 7 numbers and there are already 13 exceptions including a pair (6,18) that is in the same division 4 times.

A non-optimized grouping is probably worse than random.

4 spots left! Chance at winning $150! Who wants in?

If you haven’t paid yet, send your gift certificate to me sometime this week.

Yeah the free AI is obviously not perfect. Given enough time I believe I can figure it out. The Whatif schedules are just so ridiculously tilted toward division play that I think it has a real impact on the end results. We don't have to make a final call on this until the start of the 2nd league.

Sorry guys, I'm going to have to withdraw BOWIS. Time isn't there to dedicate to this. Stepping away from Savage after this season also. Will just play some leagues when time allows. Good luck to everyone.
