I'll take this off day to plug the Bums Bracket. Any team that does not qualify for the knockout rounds can participate in the Bums, which is run in the same format - teams are seeded, play a home and away against their matched opponent and advance to the Bums finals. Participation is voluntary and teams do not automatically get included, so please let me know if you want to play some additional games in the tourney and try to salvage the glory that belongs to finishing in 17th place.

So far there are 5 teams entered, listed below.

List of Participants

FC Cackalacky

Osztrák-Magyar Monarchia Foci Klub
FC Not Very Athletic
Not Very United
FC Trojans of SC

That means Rushmore FC, Brighton AFC, Outkast FC, Bad News, VB Hibernian and Fianna AFC are still eligible, as well as the poor team that gets eliminated tomorrow in the last Group Stage game. The deadline to enter a team into the Bums will be Thursday with the opening round starting Friday.

Let me know by either sitemail or posting a comment here.

The Group Stage for FC Dynasty Cup XVII is now complete and the last game sent two teams through to the knockouts. Wolfsburg Dynamit had won on the 29th to stay alive and needed a repeat performance in the final game of Group E. Hitting the road against FC Kingston, they faced a team that was also needing a result and both teams gave maximum effort. The first shot of the game almost resulted in a Wolfsburg goal as Isamu Fukuda drove his cleats into the ball and got it past Kingston goalie Hilario Serpa but clipped it off the crossbar and out for a goal kick. Dynamit nearly scored again in the 15th when Natanael Nabarro knocked one off the far post but still the score remained scoreless. While Kingston would be happy enough with a draw, Wolfsburg, on the other hand, had to get a lead and started pushing players forward as the time ticked down. One of the Wolfsburg defenders got impatient late and picked up a silly foul with only minutes remaining, setting up a free kick that Kingston converted into the death blow that ended the German squad's hopes. Ronaldo Franco headed the resulting cross in in the 88th minute and Kingston won the game 1-0, setting off celebrations not only in the stadium but also in France as Real TK secured the 16th seed as a result.

I'm going to re-check all of the standings and set up the playoff seeds tomorrow with the First Round starting on Thursday. Great group stage, everyone.

The Knockout Round seeds are official and you may start to schedule at your leisure. The First Round is a home and away with away goals being the only tiebreaker. If we have an aggregate/away goal tie, the higher seed will host the first tiebreaker game.

As the games start to be scheduled, I will post the game date on the Knockout Round page in [red brackets.] The time frame for scheduling games runs through July 13th. If a series is involved in tiebreakers, the deadline does not apply since there is no limit as to how many sudden death tiebreakers can be played. If you win your series, don't start scheduling Quarterfinal games even if you know your opponent. Let's let the other series catch up to you.

Here is how the seeding ended up, one of the few times the away goal tiebreaker was not needed.

#1 - Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi (16 pts)
#2 - FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds (15 pts, +17 GD)
#3 - the crutchanators of soccer (15 pts, +14 GD)
#4 - SwampDragons United (13 pts)
#5 - FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men (12 pts, +4 GD)
#6 - North Polar Dragons FC (12 pts, +2 GD)
#7 - Merchiston FC (11 pts)
#8 - FC Kingston (2nd pl, 12 pts, +3 GD)
#9 - Bolton Wanderers (2nd pl, 12 pts, -1 GD)
#10 - Metropolitan Eagles (2nd pl, 10 pts, +4 GD)
#11 - Kobelco United Football Club (2nd pl, 10 pts, +2 GD)
#12 - FC Gimli Vikings (2nd pl, 9 pts)
#13 - FC Stolpen Steamroller (2nd pl, 8 pts)
#14 - Fußball-Club Köln 01/07 e. V. (2nd pl, 7 pts)
#15 - Swamp City Dragons (3rd pl, 9 pts, -1 GD)
#16 - Real TK (3rd pl, 9 pts, -3 GD)

Best of luck in the playoffs, everyone. I'll get the Bums Bracket posted tomorrow evening since there's still 24hrs left in the signups.

The Time Frame to Schedule 1st Round Games - July 3rd thru July 13th (Challenges must be sent and accepted by 7pm on the 13th. This does not mean the games must be played by the 13th.)

Not tournament related, but new to me. A senior citizen declined a contract renewal! I had to offer a raise of 1% before he'd re-up. I thought it was automatic after age 26 but evidently not.

Challenge forwarded. My youths have been doing better this season in a competitive world, but I doubt we could game much to be world beating. Perhaps I need to get another FC Dynasty squad along with my nephews and brother in law in a world for s/g.

I usually maintain three teams. My problem is I forget to check in to my other teams sometimes (when the tournament is not playing) and WIS deletes my squad after so many days of inactivity. I think I've lost my (Austro) Hungarian team three times, lol.

No joke. They were just on the verge of becoming competitive the last time they were wiped out.

I was not expecting one of the First Round games to be played so quickly (and I took the July 4th holiday off regardless) but we have the opening game of the Cup XVII playoffs now officially in the books as #5 seed FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men hosted #12 FC Gimli Vikings in Warwarkshire. 42,000 fans came out to celebrate their team's first-ever knockout appearance and they didn't leave disappointed. Pepe Cano scored before most of the home crowd had gotten their first pint of beer and the rout was on despite Donzel Monreal trying to horsecollar his mark in the 43rd minute, putting Stratford down a man for the rest of the game. Even with the 11-10 advantage, the Swedes were only able to scored once when Connor McCarty knocked one in off the goal post to close the gap to 3-1. For good measure, Stratford added a couple of late short-handed goals to make the Gimli task monumental when the return game is played tomorrow. The final 5-1 win for the English squad is making them look very good for the quarters.

Most of the games have been scheduled and are mostly grouped around the 7th-9th, with a couple of games towards the middle of the month. The Bums also starts live action on the 7th.

While most teams are about to begin their playoff runs, we already have a Quarterfinalist as #5 FC Stratford-Upon-Avon King's Men traveled to Sweden and knocked out #12 FC Gimli Vikings with a 6-3 aggregate. Gimli played much better in the return match and took a quick lead when Stearn Rentería headed in a corner kick cross in the 9th minute to cut the differential to 5-2 but the Vikings needed to score in bunches and a solid Stratford defense limited the damage. Brodie Hambard's 75th minute score guaranteed Gimli would win the game but the 2-1 final score was far short of the margin needed to send the series into sudden death.

Stratford will have some time to rest before finding out who their next opponent will be. Most series get underway tomorrow in a very busy day by knockout standards. The Golden Toe leader, Sampo Jarvela from the crutchanators of soccer, has only a single goal lead over several players with a gaggle withing striking distance.
