Man, so close on a bunch of teams I would have loved to have drawn...

Missed 1906 Cubs by one spot (1907 Tigers)
Missed 1919 White Sox by one spot (1918 Cubs)
Missed 1947 Yankees & 1948 Indians by one spot (1947 Dodgers)
Missed 1953 Yankees by one spot (1952 Dodgers)
Missed 1965 Dodgers by one spot (1966 Orioles)
Missed 1986 Mets by one spot (1987 Twins)

It looks like oldtimer59 hit the lottery... He has at multiple teams I would have chosen with a top 3-5 pick if we drawn numbers and had drafted teams (instead of randomly being assigned teams). Herea are some of his stud teams.

1903 Pirates (91-49)
1927 Yankees (110-44)
1931 Cardinals (101-53)
1956 Yankees (97-57)
1985 Cardinals (101-61)
2001 Yankees (95-67)

I had a mixed bag...I got some absolute duds (2002 Angels; 2014 Royals - whose only redeeming feature is their bullpen, and we all know how that works out in the SIM; 92 Blue Jays, 77 Yankees) but also hit it big with 3 teams I think can seriously contend: 42 Cardinals, 54 Indians, 75 Reds (although that Reds pitching is...not good....)

This is a tournament where I expect that how good a manager someone is - as opposed to how good they are at scouting and drafting teams - is going to make a big difference. Every one of these teams has weaknesses (1927 Yankees have holes at 3B, SS...have no bench...no bullpen beyond Wilcy Moore); most teams will require some active management to avoid fatigue, make optimal use of your pitching staffs; this is ABSOLUTELY a tournament where tailoring your lineups, rotation, and settings to the opposition will make at least a small difference. Modern teams will require daily roster management, shuttling players back and forth to AAA for rest, etc. Early-era teams will require constant attention to fatigue, shifting lineups around to ensure players don't get too fatigued.

I hope everyone has fun. I am looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out.

Salary for my eight teams: (excludes 200K fillers, but includes AAA non-200K players for teams > 25 players).

Lg1: 1907 Tigers, $73.4 million (17 players)
Lg2: 1918 Cubs, $78.0 million (21 players)
Lg4: 1947 Dodgers, $71.1 million (26 players)
Lg5: 1952 Dodgers, $72.3 million (26 players)
Lg6: 1966 Orioles, $77.2 million (28 players)
Lg7: 1987 Twins, $64.9 million (27 players)
Lg8: 1990 Reds, $73.5 million (29 players)
Lg9: 2009 Yankees, $78.1 million (31 players)

Will be interesting to see what other salaries look like. What the average is in each league, etc.

Thought I'd check out how this set of teams is doing.

Through 125 games:

1903 Pirates: 68-57; currently tied for 3rd (or tied for last, depending on your POV), in the NLE. They are currently 3 games out of the WC
1927 Yankees: 76-49, leading their division by 16 games. Interestingly, they have only the 3rd best overall record in the AL.
1931 Cardinals: 52-73, 4th place, 12 games out of 1st, 20 games out of the WC
1956 Yankees: 56-69, 4th place, 9 games out of 1st, 14 games out of the WC
1985 Cardinals: 63-62, 2nd place, 11 games out of 1st, 8 games out of the WC
2001 Yankees: 59-66, 4th place, 15 games out of 1st, 12 games out of the WC

This tournament is tough...

This tournament is tough...
The pitching on the bottom four teams has been awful and the 4th and 5th SP are just horrid on all of them

27 Yanks started 53-23, then went 17-26, and have won last 6. The bottom 3rd of the lineup is very marginal

Collectively, the teams were a high of .559. Now .502. One day under .500.

31 cardinals were 39-34, with 3 game ;lead, and have gone 13-39 since. Just horrid pitching. Cards had only 1124IP on roster. Pen has been toast all year. I had to bench Hallahan , on a 9 man staff he was so bad.
