I'm concerned that I have not heard from themauti1 since they signed up last month. I am hoping we get a new 24th player before they get on the clock at noon CENTRAL time tomorrow (Saturday, June 7). I have asked current players who will be getting their first pick from an AL if they could proxy draft, until we get #24.

If you are considering jumping in, this is a great time because the player you would replace gets first pic in the Dodgers round. Lots of amazing quality to pick from.

I'm going to use the sign up thread to paste some future draft grid options for v3 and beyond of this league. Even if we settle on a draft grid, the variation in team order and pick order would make every draft a very different experience from the prior ones.

I also think this is a fine thread to debate whether future versions should allow draft order trades, or perhaps if there should be a process/deadline for those. I generally lean toward more decisions = more strategy and more fun, but other perspectives are great too.

Anyway, here is the current pattern. Building in a spreadsheet, I am making sure that each row adds up to 300, which is a good way to make sure each row has exactly one instance of each owner (1-24, assigned randomly).

This pattern has the 1 move down a position each round (which is great for that person), since finishing with a low draft position (or 1st position) is nice. But the rest of the numbers alternate up or down in the following rounds, which mixes it up a fair bit. It also creates patterns whereby most round 24 people could trade their position with someone in an earlier even round (if they are even in r24) or an earlier odd round (if they are odd in r24).

I can't find an abbreviation that keeps the table condensed, so keep in mind column 1 helps you follow the PICK order, even though it also represents the name of whatever player draws INTO that position.

New Option 1 PICK ORDER NOT TEAM ORDER
This was the pattern in v1 of this draft, which people who started in the middle or bottom disliked. However, if we did the draft such that instead of devoting a day to each TEAM, we devoted a day to each pick number, we could perhaps loosen the "hour by hour" part. So, if it was "4th pick" day and you knew your team was the Red Sox, you would have to look at each previously chosen Red Sox player and pick someone else. As I say it aloud, I can imagine people might prefer this if I kept track by team the way I am for draft #2.

New Option 5 - Selective Swaps
Instead of keeping the columns in groups, I swapped individual columns (11=23, 9=21, 7=19, 5=17, 3=15, 1=13). One cool thing about this method - if I add up the first 12 columns, each row adds to 138, 150, or 162. That means that people are pretty evenly split in both the front and back parts of the draft. Still, someone will always have a high pick in round 24.

Option 1 would feel very different because we are all thinking about different teams on any given day, and it will feel more like you are drafting on your own pace. That's both good and bad.

Option 2-5 are ever finer gradients of trying to balance high/low picks across the draft. My assumption is that trades are harder under 5 than 4 than 3 than 2, but I could be wrong.

I tried to put groups in an order that visually balanced people from having big clusters of high/low picks followed by the same, but maybe there is a better order to achieve that effect.

Do you think the cap for version 3 should go up/down or stay the same?
Any other tweaks worth discussing?

Up. Back to 120. No trades allowed. I could have traded only with the other chewy eventually taken over for. Not available to drafting not.available to trade with.

I liked this last draft. Would like to see $120mm at least.
