Buddy Kerr SS


Shortstop Buddy Kerr of the New York Giants hit a home run in his first big league at-bat, against the Philadelphia Phillies on September 8, 1943. He spent six seasons as the Giants' regular shortstop and played a then-record 68 consecutive games without making an error in 1946 and 1947. He was later traded to the Boston Braves, with whom he played for two years. After his playing career ended, he was a minor league manager then scouted for the Giants through 1975 and the New York Metsfrom 1976 until becoming special assistant to the general manager and retiring in 2002.
