Kenesaw Mountain Landis is going into its 24th season of existence. We have had a strong core of owners for awhile now, and we are looking for a couple more to keep us going for next season and beyond! Openings are below with last year's team information. You can choose any city you want when you replace them.
Over half of KML's owners have been around for at least 10 seasons, and 2/3 have been around for at least 5 seasons. Since I've taken over as commissioner, our wait times between seasons have been minimal. So you can count on a great group of owners and not having to wait months between seasons if you join us!
We have two openings left, rebuild opportunities with the #1 and #2 overall picks in this season's draft. We also have a 3-year, 180 win MWR (cannot have fewer than 55 wins in consecutive seasons) to help avoid ultra tanking.
Current Openings:
NL West
Anaheim (50-112)
Anaheim was handicapped by an owner who disappeared at the start of the season, so the team got off to something like a 1-34 start, so their record is a little misleading. The previous owner had been at the helm for 15 seasons, and it looked like he was starting a rebuild. The team has somewhere near $50 million in committed contracts for this season, so there's not a huge financial commitment right now. Now with the 2nd overall pick, the next owner can jumpstart this rebuild with a top tier prospect and build on some of their recent picks, such as SS
Avery Blasingame, P
Howard Evans, and P
Tyson Lake. There are also some solid ML players that could be traded for prospects or built around going forward, including 1B
Timothy Buchholz (0.280/0.380/0.545), C
Alex Kirwan (0.279/0.345/0.529), and DH
Engel Flores (0.306/0.401/0.565). This is a fun rebuild for anyone looking to start fresh.
AL South
Wichita (48-114)
Another rebuild opportunity, Wichita has been bad for awhile, so they have some talent to build around. Last year's #1 overall pick, Wayne Parent is listed as a catcher, but should be able to play most positions on the field. Former #3 pick Ed Wheeler and late 1st Kelvim Ramsey are promising defenders that are ready for the majors. Now with the #1 pick this year, there's a chance for the next owner to add another great prospect. It looks like Wichita has only about $50 million in committed contracts (I'm not sure because they have some contracts in the minors), and they do have something like 10-12 players hitting arbitration this year, so there's a lot of flexibility for the next owner to decide who to keep and who to dump without taking on salary and a lot of these contracts expire this season. Their major league talent is lacking a little bit, but they do have some solid players such as LF Turner MacDougal (career 0.347 OBP with 404 SBs in 6 seasons) who is one of the best leadoff men in the game, 3B Artie Hausmann is a solid defender and only 23, and 1B Luis Nunez is still a solid hitter at his age. Wichita needs a veteran owner who can straighten this team out longterm, but it's a promising future ahead.
