UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

I have not been in a SYN league before, so I just focused on bad players all around -- low OBP, bad defense, high WHIP, high HR pitchers. However, because I had to spend the money some of these guys may perform better due to the quality (or lack thereof) of the opposition. I also allowed enough PA's at each position, and that might be a mistake. Hence the team name. I figured that a lot of games would be in extreme parks like Coors, Fenway, or the Astrodome, so I picked one that is somewhat less extreme.

In looking at the team I got (Jeff's Kingdoms Schadenfreude) I think I have to get some emergency infield coaches. I may just have to find the best athlete available to play shortstop.

BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD

Ultimate stars and studs strategy here. 4 great hitters and then 11 complete imbeciles. Went for huge salary with these guys and tried to keep the PA low to get the fatigue train rolling. Of the 4 hitters, there are 2 first basemen and 2 second basemen. Obviously all 4 will play regularly but 2 will be out of position. I'm interested to see where they will go in the lineup. 1-2-3-4? 1-3-5-7? 2-3-5-6? Only drafted about 100 PA at Catcher. Bring on those passed balls! Only 4 guys with more than 300 PA.

Pedro Martinez will compete for the Cy Young. Wilbur Wood will chuck 300 decent innings. After that, there's absolutely nothing for pitching. Need those two stars to get roughed up at Coors and get into the useless bullpen. How many innings can you squeeze out of Pedro? Will he still be useful at 60% fatigue and throw 350 innings?

Kept the PA and IP at the bare minimum and sent these guys to Coors. All LHP except one and all RHB except one. Need fatigue to matter for this team to be as bad as I hoped

IP, SAL, AB all a bit over the required.

I love SYN. It's been awhile but if felt like riding a bike.

Issue #1: I made a team, it was illegal in about 12 different ways. I then read the rules.
Issue #2: Remade the team, still forgot a rule. Remade team.
Issue #3: So after 45 minutes, I then had a grasp on things. My main goal was to create a team riddled with fatigue. The secondary goal was to "waste" money on players that couldn't be used.

General strategy:

1. Waste Money on low PA, IP (and ip/g) guys. With no trading, I adopted the closer strategy. I drafted 6. There's about 350 really good IP. Good luck using them effectively. There Shane Spencer too. He might hit .700 in 100 PA.
2. Make sure the defense is awful. There's a couple OF that don't suck, but they don't have a ton of PA. Everyone else is awful in the field. I forget Joel Youngblood's salary but I am confident he isn't worth it. And that's the better 3b.
3. Really hammer the fatigue and defense at SS/2b/C. I think I draft 170 C PA, 300 SS and 450 2B. The SS and 2b ARE bad too, like can't field.
4. Load up on bad defenders at OF and 1b (and 3b), so if they play out of position the defense will be atrocious.
5. I tried to limit HR's ( I took a couple guys with 20) and SB (Lou Brock has has 35 but 24 CS).

The team can hit a little (265/327/398) so I was hoping they would compound other teams fatigue problems. Pitching is awful, the WHIP is 1.47 and the hr/9 is over 1. They'll be a mess by game 20.

I closed it up by dropping them in Coors to add to fatigue and chose a name that just inspired a sigh.

As the not-so-proud owner of the Beanie Baby Collection, all of these things were noted upon first glance and not appreciated. Good (bad) job with the build.
