SimLeague Baseball Mobile App Beta Test Topic

Big news - we’re almost ready to open up beta testing for the brand-new SimLeague Baseball mobile app! I want to start gathering a group of users who are excited to jump in early. For now, testing will be on Apple devices only. If all goes well (and it has with our internal testing), we should be ready to launch at the beginning of the year.

If you want to be part of the first wave, just reply here. It helps if you can also share a quick snapshot of your SLB background - how long you’ve played, favorite formats, memorable teams or seasons, anything that shows how you engage with the game.

One thing we’re excited about: once we nail down the template and flow for the SLB app, it should make it a lot easier for us to move faster on apps for the other SimLeague games too. And after that, we can finally take a real run at the more complex dynasty games.

We’ll pull testers from this thread and keep everyone posted as we get closer.

Appreciate everyone who’s willing to help. This is going to be a fun step forward for SLB and for WIS overall.

***I'll also post a couple teaser screenshots on our Twitter/X account @WhatIfSports

I'd love to help test.

SLB background:

Been playing since Mar 2001 (under a different username, this was my 4th username - hence the "4" in it). Back when I first started Spring leagues were 30 game seasons and I couldn't afford to buy any teams, so I created dozens of accounts to keep playing spring seasons (once upon a time I posted the full list of usernames in the SLB forum). Once I could afford to buy teams, I then started buying under this account as it had the best rating among the others (funny in retrospect).

I was a regular on the old test.whatifsports.net test server from 2005-2015... have run several tournaments in the past that had WIS support prizes. Have run dozens of progressive leagues, and created one of the more widely adopted anti-tanking draft formulas. Discovered the original fatigue strategy and posted about it in the thread "How to win with 800 IP" which led to the IP/PA minimums, as well as have spent a good amount of time helping users understand the fatigue models and how they work.

Worked with WIS to put together the Best All-Time Lineup to drive traffic during covid, as well as worked with WIS to create and administer user-polls sent to all users with accounts that were <24 months old at the time to determine user drop-off, participation, and the impact of things like AAA, WW, the mwett cookie teams to take advantage of newer owners, etc (funny thing is he was the biggest voice against veteran owners in OLs and using cookies at the time, and now he's the one people rail against) - these polls were used to influence the decision to remove AAA from OL among other changes that were proposed but did not go forward, etc.

I am still regularly active in a few progressive leagues, the occasional theme league, am one of a handful that still try to keep champ league participation moving, and drop a few teams in OLs just to get a feel for periodic state of the game...

Likewise, please count me in.

I have been a regular user of this site for almost 20 years, have played more than 2000 seasons of SLB, with 157 championships, and maintain an owner ranking in the top 25.

In addition to the overall volume of play, I would highlight the following:
-- Have created and run many theme leagues, including tournaments such as the Greatest World Series Team tournament earlier this year, and the TWISL series ("Testing What If Sports League") that has used different theme designs to examine and create greater understanding of how the SLB engine works
-- Founder of 3 long running progressives (NWP, NWP-EE, NWP-RE) and the long running Cooperstown Historical Replay league
-- One of the most prolific contributors to the main SLB forum, especially in documenting elements of game play to help both new and experienced owners. My "Advice for Newbies" thread is pinned at the top of the forums and is one of the most read threads on the site.
-- Have been sought out by previous site owners on multiple occasions for advice on improving game play in SLB.

I'd be interested as well. I don't have near the pedigree just4me and contrarian have, but I've been active daily since 2008, starting out with Open Leagues, to dabbling in some themes, to now primarily progressives. I'll have 3-4 leagues going at any given time, as I've found that to be a good number that I can enjoy without it turning into a job. I have been running one progressive league for at least 15 seasons now. I usually check in on my teams at least 3 times a day, usually right after the games have simmed for each period. I like to micro-manage my teams, so being able to do this through a mobile app should hopefully be much easier, and I'd be interested in giving feedback on that as well as any tools that might be available for helping run progressive leagues.

I'd also love to participate. I have been on this site since my brother, just4me, offered me a free team to play in a 1969 replay progressive league as the Chicago Cubs franchise. As a die hard cubs fan, I accepted his offer and have been hooked to this site since. Over the 20+ years, I've played open leagues, theme leagues, ran test teams to gather data on fatigue for hitters and pitchers, defense etc, and participated in the WISC tournament each year. While I am not as successful an owner as others on this site - my passion for progressive leagues is evident. I both run and participate is several progressive leagues - and feel I am a stand up and positive addition to the leagues. Additionally, Most of my WIS time is done via my phone - and so I believe my feedback/experiences could be valuable for the beta testing.

Great group raising their hands so far

I feel even more unqualified than mattedesa raising my hand - newer and much, much less accomplished than the Hall of Famers in this group having joined during COVID in 2020. That said, I’m a part of a passionate group of friends that check daily and are keen to see where WhatIfSports can go next! Our related WhatsApp groups generally have dozens of messages each day and sometimes hundreds when the topic is particularly spicy! I’m frequently eliminated in Round 1 of the WIS, but participate frequently in theme leagues. I’ll mention the DEAL/DEP leagues of kelly1 as I’ve actually done ok in those ones, but a willing, less successful participant in others. I’d love to be part of any testing you need.

I would be happy to help test and provide feedback.

I would love to help test. Been a member for 20+ years between this and a previous account. Basically exclusively play progressives now but have played all types of leagues. I check my teams after every game and manage fatigue constantly so an app would be great.
