The difference between 1st and 25th is only 25 points at the 1/3rd mark.
Compared to past years I've participated, this year I've consistently been feeling like there is more parity and that my place in the standings is less firm as a result. More specifically, I've been feeling like that 25 point distance between 25th and the top is smaller than in past years.
But is that actually reality, or am I just paranoid due to my 4 year layoff?
A 25 win difference now equates to a 75 win difference between 1st and 25th at the end of the season. Here's how other years stack up:
So, in reality, this year is on pace to be right in the middle.
This is interesting to me. I think part of the feeling is my layoff, yes, but also part of it I think is related to the themes this year. In general there are more similar rosters than usual (either by design like in the 120M and arguably the 70M and 110M, or in practice like the 140M). As a result, a good place in the standings feels less secure since the leagues are more likely to feature streaky outcomes. So a 25 point lead in the overall standings feels smaller than usual.
That's neither good nor bad, it just is. I have a feeling things will get chaotic down the stretch for an unlucky few.
