Based on Sim Baseball Juice’s “Draft” Tournament
Thejuice6 came up with the idea, schwarze continues to run this league in simbaseball.
This is a 3-round tournament.
Round 1 Details
There will be four drafts in round 1. Each draft represents one 24-team league, using a specific time frame (i.e., League 1 uses years 1951/52 - 1979/80). You can participate in one draft, two drafts or all four drafts. When it’s time to draft for League 2, those who participate in League 1 get first dibs on League 2. If you choose to skip a league, then you can request to be put on the waitlist for the next league’s draft but are not guaranteed to get in.
Note that each draft will begin once the previous draft ends. The first league will begin play as soon as the first draft ends, the second league will begin play as soon as the second drafts ends, etc..
Here is a list of the seasons for each league in round 1.
League 1: 1951/52 - 1979/80 (29 seasons)
League 2: 1980/81 - 1999/00 (20 seasons)
League 3: 2000/01 - 2014/15 (15 seasons)
League 4: 2015/16 - 2024/25 (10 seasons)
Every season of each player will be eligible to be drafted. For example, it’s possible for 10 teams in league 4 to roster a different LeBron season.
The round 1 draft order for each league draft will be determined at random. Each successive round after round 1 (2-10) will be based on cumulative team salary (lowest drafts first).
Rounds 1-8, one player per round (8 players)
Rounds 9/10, two players per round (4 players)
Each league in round 1 will be a 24-team league and the alignment will be based on final team salary (highest 6 in the Pacific, next highest 6 in the MidWest , lowest 6 in Atlantic, next lowest 6 in the Central)
Other Details
Salary Cap: None
Rookies, WW: No
Clones: You can only have 1 version of a player on each team. You cannot draft 15-16 LeBron and 16-17 LeBron. Once you draft a LeBron, you are locked out from drafting any other season of LeBron.
Multi-Team Seasons: You may use partial or combined season (only 1 version can be drafted). You must specify which version you are using so your current salary can be calculated for the draft order.
Alignment: Round 1: Based on salary (highest 6 in the Pacific, next highest 6 in the MidWest , lowest 6 in Atlantic, next lowest 6 in the Central)
Alignment: Round 2: First chronological, then based on salary (highest in Pacific, etc.)
Alignment: Round 3: Chronological
Advancement to Round 2:
Twelve teams (50%) from each league will advance. The best 3 in each division will advance to the next round. The first tiebreaker is conference record, the second is whoever gets more playoff wins.
Round 2 Details
There are two leagues in round 2. They will be determined as follows:
League 1:
1951/52 - 1979/80 West Pacific: 6 from R1L1 West, West MidWest: 6 from R1L1 East
1980/81 - 1999/00 East Central: 6 from R1L2 West, East Atlantic: 6 from R1L2 East
League 2:
2000/01 - 2014/15 West Pacific: 6 from R1L3 West, West MidWest: 6 from R1L3 East
2015/16 - 2024/25 East Central: 6 from R1L4 West, East Atlantic: 6 from R1L4 East
You will use the same roster that you drafted in round 1 as you enter round 2, with one exception. Each of the 12 advancing teams from your round 1 league will hold a one round draft (worse record picks first) and select one player off a roster from the 12 non-advancing teams (which means you must cut one player from your current roster). You may select any player, but keep in mind that clones are not allowed so if you already have LeBron on your roster, you cannot take another LeBron unless you cut your current LeBron (i.e., upgrade 03/04 LeBron to 12/13 LeBron). This one round draft gives the lesser advancing teams a fair shot at improving going into the next round.
Advancement to Round 3:
Twelve teams (50%) from each league will advance. The best 3 in each division will advance to the next round. The first tiebreaker is conference record, the second is whoever gets more playoff wins.
Round 3 Details
The division alignment is determined as follows:
West Pacific : 1951/52 - 1979/80 (6 from Round 2, League 1, West, 3 from Pac, 3 from Mid)
West MidWest: 1980/81 - 1999/00 (6 from Round 2, League 1, East, 3 from Cen, 3 from Atl)
East Central: 2000/01 - 2014/15 (6 from Round 2, League 2, West, 3 from Pac, 3 from Mid)
East Atlantic: 2015/16 - 2024/25 (6 from Round 2, League 2, East, 3 from Cen, 3 from Atl)
You will use the same roster from round 2 as you enter round 3, with one exception. Each of the 3 advancing teams from each division in round 2 will hold a one round draft (worse record picks first) and select one player off a roster from the 3 non-advancing teams from that division.
Note that since there are only four Leagues in round 1 , the maximum teams a single person advance into the final round is 4 teams. (One in each division from the four time periods)
Drafting Procedure
Each Round 1 draft should take 12 - 14 days to complete. We will draft no fewer than 24 picks (one round) per day (30-minute intervals, from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm EDT). I will be posting the next day’s schedule every evening, but you should be able to estimate the time of your next pick, based on your cumulative salary, relative to other teams. If you can’t be available for your scheduled pick, please leave proxies with a few people. If we are way ahead of schedule, then I will modify the schedule – there is no reason to have five+ hour delays between picks. If somebody has not made a pick and your time slot arrives, you may skip them and make your pick, and those after you may pick immediately.
Prizes
Hoping to get Admin to donate at least $50 in credits...
$30 to the Round 3 Championship winner
$10 to the Round 3 Championship loser
$10 will go to the owner with the most regular season wins across all 4 Round 1 leagues. You don't have to play in all 4 to be eligible for this prize, but playing in all 4 will certainly increase your chances of winning this prize.
