The Pretzel League
The Pretzel League is a "blind draft" league in which teams are built with owners submitting lists like the table-top party game "Scattergories."
In Round 1, all owners submit a list of 12 players.
- Number your players from 12 to 1, with 12 being the player most desired.
- If you make the highest “bid” on a player, he is yours. If two managers make an equal bid, the player is out for the current season and nobody gets him.
In Round 2, each owner submits a list of players equal in number to his remaining roster spots.
- For example, if you submitted 4 unique player names and 8 duplicates in Round 1, you would make an 8-player list in Round 2.
- If you have 9 players after Round 2, you would submit a list of 3 players in Round 3, etc.
This process repeats until all 12-man rosters are completed! (It normally takes 5-7 rounds)
Rules
- Owners may submit their Round 1 ballots via sitemail to Midge as soon as they're ready.
- I have my Round 1 ballot ready, and I will reply with my ballot to the first 3 submissions each round so you can verify that everything is on the "up and up." (I will also reply with my ballot to any owner who requests) Please title the subject of your sitemail "Round 1 Ballot, 1st Rd Ballot" or something similar.
- Beginning Round 2, owners will have a maximum of 48 hours to submit their ballots. I will be strictly enforcing this rule. Holidays, weekends, etc. will not be excuses.
- We will switch to a 24-hour time limit to submit ballots once we get to the 4th round depending on how the draft goes.
Please submit your lists in the following format: (Firstname Lastname)
Patrick Ewing
Dikembe Mutombo
Alonzo Mourning
Allen Iverson
Othella Harrington
Greg Monroe
DeJuan Summers
Hollis Thompson
Reggie Williams
David Wingate
... etc.
- Make sure your spellings are correct.
- Do not include the player's position or additional info.
- Do not include commas or use bullet points
- Do not use last name only or "last name first" format or use nicknames, etc.
- You do not have to include the player's season. You decide which season to use when you build your team.
- No salary cap, no clones.
The Pretzel League is basically Scattergories with an added layer to it. The idea was introduced by chewy3344, so it’s Scattergories with a chewy twist…..The Pretzel League.
The added twist is that in addition to submitting a list of 12 players, you also rank your players from 12 to 1.
Here’s an example:
Jeff Hornacek 12
Mike Newlin 11
Bob Lanier 10
Bob Gross 9
Bobby Dandridge 8
Robert Horry 7
Cuttino Mobley 6
Evan Mobley 5
John Havlicek 4
Kevin Porter 3
Kevin Johnson 2
Dean Meminger 1
If no one else has Hornacek as a 12, he is yours. If two or more people have him as a 12 nobody gets him and poor Jeff has to wait until next season to play. If 23 managers have Mike Newlin as a 10, but you have him as an 11 he is yours. The draft continues just like Scat until everyone has 12 players.
If you got four of your players in round one, in round two your list will be numbered from 8 to 1. If you only got two players, your list will be numbered from 10 to 1. This way, if you had a terrible first round, instead of being out of it, you have a chance to recover later in the draft.
If there are any questions please ask.
