I wouldn't expect another owner to do that on a fair rule 5 selection, but if the deal isn't voided I don't see a way I don't get screwed here

That doesn't void the deal. Sometimes the owner who makes the winning claim will offer the player back in a less lopsided deal. Sometimes not.

Two of the players I was supposed to get back in the trade were not protected and are sure-fire Rule 5 selections... I assume that voids the deal?
