I will acknowledge that with an empty farm, little ML talent and maybe bad contracts…every dollar not going into the farm feels like a waste. The tough side of trying to prevent multi year tanking....

Yeah I'm with you a3. You can scoop up enough guys to hit 55 wins for under $10 million for a full roster at the end of free agency if you care to do it.

It's easy to sign cheap free agents (1-3M) to one year deals and at least be competitive, even when your team is bad. Anyone saying otherwise just wants to tank.

I think a 4 year turnaround is better timeline. A full rebuild you dont want to sign frtee agents who wont be around when your younger guys make the majors.

Its counter productive to give money to free agents instead of your scouting. You can still sign cheap free agents and scan the waiver wire to fill in holes.
